Warren Buffett’s NetJets Flying Green in Europe

On the coattails of Avantair’s carbon offset announcement, fractional ownership jet provider, NetJets Europe, just announced a major eco-travel initiative. In addition to regular membership costs, all new and existing private jet clients will be required to pay around €4,000 per year to offset their carbon footprints.

An additional move announced by NetJets is to fund Princeton University’s Carbon Mitigation Initiative, which investigates green jet fuel technologies for commercial and private jet use. Oxford-based EcoSecurities will oversee NetJets’ carbon offsetting and emission reduction programs.

Cessna Citation private jetHelium Report has noted before that flying carbon neutral is well within reach for private jet clients. It costs less than 1 percent of the flying cost per hour to fly carbon neutral; peanuts when you’re paying an average $2,000 to $13,000 an hour to fly.

Executive Charter Services started buying TerraPasses for their clients in January, influenced in part by our carbon neutral article. They estimate that 1.7 million pounds of carbon emissions will be offset through their initiative.
